Pentecost & Ordinary Time
On the fiftieth day following the Resurrection the disciples received the gift of the Holy Spirit which empowered them to spread the Good News to all the world. The season that follows is the season after Pentecost and sometimes called Ordinary Time or the Green Season. It lasts for about twenty-eight Sundays depending on the date of Easter and brings us around to the beginning of Advent again. During this time, we take a large portion of three gospels (Matthew, Mark, and Luke) and taking one of them per year on a rotating basis, learning about Jesus’ ministry of healing and reconciling all the world to God the Father. Ordinary time can be understood in terms of the living out of Christian faith and the meaning of Christ’s resurrection in ordinary life. The season’s colors are green, reflecting life, growth, & creation.
