Epiphany means “making manifest” or “bringing into the light.” When someone has an epiphany it is because all of a sudden something has become clear or recognized” This season is one of celebrating the many ways Jesus was recognized in the world as a human person. We recall his birth, baptism, first miracle, and the coming of the Magi. The season begins on January 6th and continues until Ash Wednesday which marks the beginning of Lent. The liturgical color used for vestments is green, representing the green things of God’s earth and referring to growth of the spirit of God within us through our baptisms which is a main theme of the season. The length of the season Epiphany depends on the date of Easter, which is a movable date depending on the spring equinox. It can be as short as three Sundays or as long as eight.
