WHAT’S NEW THIS COMING WEEK – December 10 – 17
Walk & Be Well Potluck HAS BEEN MOVED from this Saturday TO JANUARY 22ND. This is such a busy time of year and too many people had other commitments this weekend. We’ll have the same theme with the same dishes (Ethiopia, Thailand, & India) and a pair of new children’s shoes to bless and take to the food bank. Watch for more info after Christmas.
THIS SUNDAY and next (December 11 & 18) we will have adult ed at 9am to talk about the coming liturgical year of Matthew. We will also spend a little time on the 18th talking about what kinds of adult ed offerings you all would like to see this coming year. I have heard requests for bible study, the Eucharist explained, a look at the Book of Common Prayer, Prayer, etc. Bring your thoughts and we’ll schedule some things. And if you’d like to lead a short series, please let me know.
Our readings for this first Sunday in Advent are: http://www.lectionarypage.net/YearA_RCL/Advent/AAdv3_RCL.html
Following worship this Sunday, we will be greening the church. If you can stay for a bit and help put things out for Christmas, it will look beautiful for the season.
If you have not had the chance to turn in your pledge form yet, Please bring it in as soon as possible. Blank pledge cards are on the table in the back of the sanctuary as well. This really helps with putting our budget together for 2017.
Many thanks to all that turned them in already.
Soup Kitchen will be this Wednesday, December 14th. If you would like to bring soup, make Christmas cookies, or volunteer your time, please let Rick Woodruff (206-854-1545) or Jeff Waters know. We will be collecting socks to give to the guests as well, so bring them this Sunday. Socks are sold in bulk at Costco and some of the Outlet Mall shops. And, thanks to the contributions in the paint bucket, we’ll contribute another $80 worth of socks to the cause.
Are you interested in Caroling during the Christmas Season? We are scheduled to sing on December 17th at 2pm at Red Oak in North Bend. Lydia Pozzato will have music booklets available for all and asks that we meet there by 1:50pm. If you would like to meet at 12:00 pm for lunch those who can do so, will gather at the Riverbend Cafe, at 14303 436th Ave SE, North Bend . This is open to everyone – all ages & musical skills. Let’s spread some joy to the people at Red Oak. If you would like to participate, please talk with Lydia Pozzato – firstname.lastname@example.org.
CHRISTMAS AT ST. CLARE’S
This year our Christmas Eve worship service will be Saturday, Dec. 24th, at 5pm. There will be lots of Christmas carols to sing as well a Christmas homily and Holy Communion. All children who attend will have the opportunity to dress up in costumes and participate as the Christmas story is told. Please join us as we celebrate the birth of Christ among us!
Is there interest/availability in signing for the Christmas Eve service? We will practice this Sunday (Dec 11) and next (Dec 18) after church and right before service on Christmas Eve. The hymn will be “Lo, How a Rose E’re Blooming”. We have sung this in recent history (two or three years ago). Let Julie know if you are available.
Please let Patty know if you would like to worship on Christmas morning. Since that is a Sunday, I will make myself available for a quiet (no music) worship time. Many people have already indicated that they would not attend, but I do want to offer it if there is interest. You must let me know prior to Dec. 21st. Thanks.
WHAT ELSE IS HAPPENING
Year-end giving. If you would like to make a year-end gift or a memorial gift to St. Clare’s, please make sure it is dated and turned in before December 28th. Year-end gifts are obviously always appreciated as we hope to end the year in the black (which is very much possible this year thanks to your generosity). Memorial gifts are a good way to remember a loved one or give thanks for your blessings and this money is set aside in a separate account and used for special projects designated by the Bishop’s Committee. Mark your check with either Year-end or Memorial in the memo line.
The wooden decking and sidewalk areas around church have been pressure washed. They look much better and they aren’t so treacherous to walk on. However, if it’s icy, please be careful.
Thanks to those who helped offset the cost of the 2nd load of gravel in the parking lot. It’s all paid for and tamped down more and more each day.
WHAT’S NEW IN THE COMING YEAR
Mark your calendars! The Annual Meeting is scheduled for January 22nd, 2017.
v We will again integrate the meeting into our worship time followed by a brunch based on our Walk & Be Well stewardship activity this fall. Please plan to bring a dish from one of our winning countries (Thailand, India, Ethiopia) as well as a pair of new children’s shoes to be blessed and taken to the food bank in early 2017.
v The Bishop’s Committee is looking for three new members for a 3-year term. If you have any interest in serving on the board, please talk with a current member (Julie Bussing, Nancy Byrnes, Abbie Crane, Jill Jueling, Jeff Waters, Amy Workman, or Cynthia Yarnton). We will be giving thanks for Nancy, Jeff, & Amy as they go off the board.
v The Cross of St. Clare (faithful service to St. Clare’s – often without recognition) and the Ken Van Dine Liturgy (involvement in worship) awards will be presented at the meeting. If you would like to nominate someone for either award, please let Patty or one of the BC members know.
The Rev. Patty Baker
