What’s New at St. Clare’s – August 10, 2016

We will celebrate St. Clare’s life this Sunday at 10am. I hope many of you can join us for this festive day which will be followed by an ice cream social. Invite your friends to join us…our St. Clare’s is a wonderful place and she was an amazing person! Let’s share the Good News like Francis did to Clare and build up the body of Christ!

Saint Clare of Assisi (July 16, 1194 – August 11, 1253, was born Chiara Offreduccio to a wealthy Italian family. As a teen she heard Francis preach and was so taken by his message that she ran away from her family and became one of the first followers of Saint Francis of Assisi. She founded the Order of Poor Ladies, a monastic religious order for women in the Franciscan tradition, and wrote their Rule of Life, the first set of monastic guidelines known to have been written by a woman. Following her death, the order she founded was renamed in her honor as the Order of Saint Clare, commonly referred to today as the Poor Clare’s.

Ice Cream Social! After the service on August 14th, we will gather outside (weather permitting) to enjoy a “sundae on Sunday.” There will be a sign-up sheet for volunteer scoopers, and for some folks to help people (who would like help) to add the toppings of their choice. We hope to see you there! Bring a friend!!! What a great way to introduce people to St. Clare’s!
